Phillipines wonder woman and the turkish skeleton man

The wonder woman from the Phillipines, and the turkish skeleton man

In this episode, we turn international in spandex and monster!  From the Phillipines comes comic book and movie star Darna!

For fans of sexy super powered females, other countries have done their unique contribution to the spandex and monster pantheon.  In the phillipines, the most popular superheroine would be Darna.  Created in 1950 by writer Mars Ravelo and artist Nestor Redondo, Darna is a dead warrior from another planet manifesting herself in an earth girl named Narda.

Darna has had multiple adaptions into film since her debut, and her popularity is expanding past her origins in the Philipines into other parts of Asia, Europe, and the United States.  Given the strength of her following world wide and adaptations of female comic book heroes sadly lacking at the box office...it's only a matter of time before Darna breaks into the stateside popular culture of movies and comic books.

I've been looking for future interviews of both cosplay performers of Darna as well as actors, producers, comic book people connected to this unique and wonderful character.  Any tips send them to spandex and monster!

A cool clip I found showcasing Darna throughout the years.

Kilink versus the Flying man

Kilink was adapted for turkish cinema off the popular french comic character Killing.  Kilink was a mysterious nemesis of humanity who has quasi supernatural abilities, and wears a horrifying skeletal outfit.  In this very loose adaption, Kilink fights the Flying man (which is a mixture of Superman and Captain Marvel), as in most Turkish adaptions from that time period the rule book went out the window.  Kilink was a lusty anti hero was starred in two other adaptions and he made the unthinkable journey from master villan to hero.  I must say from being a cinema cult and comic book fan, finding out about his cinema adventures has been a fun journey for me.

A clip of his film...definitely offbeat and fun!
