The Flesh Eaters (1964)

The Flesh Eaters with a big lovecraftian monster with a Nazi connection

The Flesh Eaters (1964)
A black and white low budget thriller that was shot mostly around Montauk, NewYork.  It's gruesome death scenes done by crude special effects make it one of the first gore films.  With a cult following, this film influenced other gore films later.  A drunken over the hill starlet hires a pilot to take her and her assistant on a trip, only to be forced by the weather on a secluded island.  Strange skeletons of fish and a person appear on the desolate beaches.  They are met by a reclusive scientist who claims he is working on a science experiment.  Soon it is revealed that he is a Nazi scientist is conducting experiments on creatures that can devour flesh quickly.

The girl who gets semi nude and dies and the beginning for modern slasher horror films...it starts here.

Predating the slasher films by decades, we are introduced to characters such as the beatnik who are one dimensional characters just to be there to die grisly deaths.  The Nazi scientist spikes the pop drink with the nasty creatures and the beatnik is eaten alive from the inside.  Crude gore effects underscore the kills.

Never trust an ex-Nazi scientist

Eventually the hero pilot stops the mad scientist, and the creatures, but there is the possibility of new monsters from the depths.  Director Jack Curtis shot all of the scenes in deep focus, and the script was written by comic book writer Arnold Drake.
The Nazi experiment flashback scenes add a weird grindhouse vibe to the tense film

There is a weird ambiance to the whole thing, and its still oddly effective for a low budget horror sci fi Nazi scientist creates a monster film.

Worth a look for fans of Spandex and Monster.
