David Brown and Obscura

Image
David Brown and Obscura Obscura by David Brown On this edition of Spandex and Monster, we meet comic book writer David Brown and his unique comic book collection Obscura.  From all appearances it looks pretty cool, and I thought I would share it with everyone in Spandex and Monster. Who are you and what do you do to the man on the street?   My name is David M. Brown. I'm head writer and EIC of Fifth Dimension Comics. We make comics other people are afraid to make. Picture the weirdness of Twin Peaks mixed with your favorite horror movie in comic form...that's what we do. David M. Brown What brought you into comics?   I've been into comics since I was a kid. The first book I ever picked up was an issue of 'The Punisher'. I was an odd little kid and I think I was drawn to that big white skull. He's still my favorite comic character! Comics, to me, are simply the best way to present stories. Both visual and mental simultaneously. There is not...

Eric Adams and Lackluster world

Eric Adams and Lackluster world Comic book artist Eric Adams and Lackluster World at the Kentucky Cosplay and Comiccon At the recent Kentucky Cosplay and Comiccon, I ran into this comic book creator from the wild untamed lands of Cincinnati.  I checked out his work in Lackluster world, a cool comic worth the effort to get yourself a copy (links below).  As a former Cincinnati resident I was horrified to hear Eric tell me that the ghetto of my youth where I was a security guard for one day at a crappy temp agency has now been transformed into a hipster paradise...over the rhine I'll still remember you for the blight and urban decay you were known for in Cincinnati! Lackluster world at Kentucky Cosplay and Comicon Eric was very nice, and patient with me when I was comic book geeking out on him.  What can I say?  Every filmmaker has a secret or not so secret desire to work in comic books.  Films and comic books have same methods in different mediums,...

Star Trek V...old trek versus new trek

Image
God in the center of the galaxy in Star Trek V Star Trek V...old trek versus new trek When the original run of the Star Trek movies is mentioned, Star Trek V The Final Frontier is usually the one that gets the 'worst' nomination.  The original Star Trek the motion picture had wooden acting, a thin script padded out with expensive effects, but that film had the saving grace of a studio push behind it with production money.  Star Trek V, directed by William Shatner (James T. Kirk) is a weird anomaly following the crowd pleasing Star Trek IV.  At this point, Star Trek had returned to the small screen with Star Trek: The Next Generation (TNG as its called in fan circles)  That would in affect both the reviews and box office of Star Trek V.  Federation infidels in the citadel on planet Nimbus III The plot in a nutshell was the mad quest of the long lost brother of Spock (Leonard Nimoy) called Sybok(Laurence Luckingbill).  This brother woul...
