Conrad Brooks and Jan-Gel

Image
Jan-Gel, Beast from the East! Conrad Brooks and Jan-Gel Conrad Brooks is known most for his participation in Ed Wood films (Plan 9 from Outer Space, Night of the Ghouls, and Glen or Glenda) as well other early cult film (Beast of Yucca Flats) before retiring only to rediscovered in the 80's and has since been working on many films, including several of my films (Purvos, Zeppo: Sinners from beyond the moon!, Soul Robbers from OuterSpace).  Conrad has directed several films, and the best known are the Jan Gel films. A young Conrad with Bela Lugosi the original Dracula Directed with a nod to the iconic Plan 9 from outerspace, Jan Gel is a frozen monster man now awake to cause mischief in the modern era. Jan-Gel getting ready to do more mayhem! Jan-Gel fights a rubber snake in a classic so bad its good sequence The quirky film was shot with no budget, non actors in roles, and has a 'take it or leave it' feeling with its film, yet despite it all the film...

Night of the Fools

Image
Night of the Fools Night of the Fools One of my favorite films of all time is the iconic Plan 9 from Outer Space.  I also get a big kick out of filmmakers who explore or use that theme in their films.  One of my favorites is the strange film 'Night of the Fools' by director Ace Fronton.  Really awkward and inept film making on all fronts which means in a weird sort of way, a perfect friend to the Ed Wood collection.  Night of the fools is an homage to the ed wood gang as they meet over dinner, drink themselves into a stupor and Ed Wood wanders off into the woods along to meet aliens and his future destiny as the world's worst filmmaker. The film looks like it was put together by a small town theater company with no money for props, costumes, or any production values.  Large master shots with the actors awkwardly delivering their lines.  The average film fan probably won't love this film, but for us fans of 'so bad its good' cinema, definitel...

Orgy of the Dead

Image
Orgy of the Dead Horror writer Bob and his girlfriend Shirley endure monsters and burlesque dancers in Orgy of the Dead While not officially directed by cult filmmaker Ed Wood, this strange film has enough 'woodisms' to be part of his unique cinema canon.  Veteran nudie filmmaker A.C. Stephens asked Ed Wood to provide the screenplay (which originally was 20 pages with the rest of the time to be filled with horror themed nudie dancers).  Shirley is horrified by the monsters / nudie girls of Criswell!   Up and coming cult actress Pat Barringer did a dual role as Shirley and as the haunted gold girl dancer.  Rounding out the cast was Ed Wood actor/friend/psychic Criswell as the lord of undead.  Actress Fawn Silver in her only role played a character very much inspired by Vampira. one of the original promo bills for the film...just what is 'astravision' anyways? For erotica, it's pretty bad and boring.  The nudity and music pack as much hea...

Queen Shirley of Saturn and her zombie army!

It was a lot of fun...perhaps there is a sequel? Queen Shirley 2?
